Minnesot is the name of the hub at Pamlico Correctional Institution that my brother is housed in. On May 26th, North Carolina Department of Corrections knowingly exposed my brother and the inmates in his hub to Covid 19 by turning it into a quarantined hub for transferred inmates. Roger now lives in a building with inmates that have come from camps that have had Covid 19 outbreaks. He is breathing in the same recycled air and dealing with prison guards that refuse to wear gloves and provide the proper sanitation so that healthy inmates can protect themselves. Keep him and all inmates in your prayer.
Why do I gotta lie, down on the cold concrete?
Why do I have to die, before you respect my humanity?
Why do I not qualify? For even the basest of charities?
Why do you think it's right, that for your satisfaction you can sacrifice me?
Why even after I’m subdued, must I still experience such travesties,
& even on camera I don't merit the right of constitutional equality,
& why can’t I serve my time, without you vindictively multiplying the weight of your hate to go with what punishment they’ve already given me?
Why when you look at me, do you not see, that though I make mistakes, my life was also God’s gift to me?
Why does two wrongs make you right, & your abuses of authority are seen as just slights? Whether in the prisons, jails, or on the streets, uniforms mean in bringing about my demise you can take your delight,
& why when people disagree are they wrong to choose sides, like they shouldn’t shed tears over bodies lying on the ground, now empty shells growing cold where our brother’s & sister’s souls used to reside, or get upset & get besides themselves & protest to try to turn the tide, & even if done peacefully you try to find a way to collide, because a guilty conscious makes it tougher to hide behind the centuries of oppressive brute force that you have relied & the injustices with no justification that you often take pride as you continue to practice & perfect your immorally legal brand of genocide through homicide?
