A WOMAN’S WORTH
PART ONE: A WOMAN’S TOUCH
Acclaimer: A woman’s work is never done because somehow, someway she is always loving & everybody in the world needs Love. “Mama Queen of my Heart.”
My Pop’s was strict & strong, but my Mama was too. A Lot of times in a movie the real top biller doesn’t get their due.
This one is for the women & Mamas from back then & today, who struggle to keep us afloat & abreast even as we sink, & while this human race decays. O.K. Kings & Queens, let's take the crowns off, & even up the scales.
How tough & incredible you gotta be to hold up both ends of the bargain for baby, when “the man” bails.
Now every man just wants to one night you with with no thoughts to settle down, & you still gotta finish school, & he took the car, & that's way downtown.
Mamas & Grandmothers are the Matriarchs of our existence, strength personified. Like who was stronger than Mary who watched her first born, beloved son get tortured & crucified.
Hold up.
Let me look at this.
A lot of times, you’re stronger than us, you can carry the load, you always seem to go out of your way to find a way.
How many times, when you needed her most, she came bustin’ through the doors like she was there & came to save the day. What about the millions who suffer sexual molestations & sometimes are forced to deal with it alone, ‘Cause no one hears their voice when they cry out, because it happens in the confines of their homes.
Or the great multitude of women who are raped & robbed of their sense of self & being well & whole, but are still making it absolutely, amazingly, some way, day by day because they simply refuse to fold. Or the ones who challenge & unite to form the momentum of the mass majority saying “Me Too.”
For the women who work in the prisons & still get that check, Boo.
For all the women professionals & athletes who just want the payscale to reflect their just dues & what about the battered & abused women who get beat ‘cause “the man” can’t beat them or communicate & they delay departure & end up a sad story on the news. The obstacles against you compounded most times because of your sex & you have to go it alone, some of you growing up without fathers & you still manage to get it done.
No matter the fight, you never relent, you never quit, you never give up & you never run.
& You are still here by the Grace & goodness of God, 28 years later still being a faithful mother & five sisters to your incarcerated, only brother & son.
My Mother is committed & also faithful. She says, “only what you do for God will last.”
& if you don’t believe or agree, I’m rollin’ with her. She’s my mother, even if she’s wrong, she’s right with me & I got her back.
My sisters are all God-fearing, resilient women who are all making it & trying to bring a dark world some light.
Sharaya, Constance, Christiana, Moriah, rest in peace Baby Victoria, my nieces, I love you to pieces, the women you came from got it right.
Regardless of your walk of life our women are a gift from God, how could we not cherish them as such?
The closest thing to being held by the Most High has to be the feel of a Woman’s touch…
To…
Be…
